Kenny Scharf is an American artist born in 1958. He is known for his colorful and playful cartoon-like paintings and sculptures, which blend pop art, street art, and science fiction motifs. Scharf emerged as a key figure of the East Village art scene in the 1980s alongside contemporaries like Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. He has described his style as "pop surrealism”. He has exhibited extensively in galleries and museums worldwide, including the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.
