Want to experience the best open studio tour in Phoenix? Well, you need to visit first Friday’s self-guided tour of downtown Phoenix galleries, studios and art spaces. Organized by the nonprofit organization Artlink, first Fridays is dedicated to bring together artist, the public and business for the great appreciation for art.
During the 1990’s, Artlink decided to organize first Fridays as a extension from the annual Art Detour. The Art Detour attracted thousands of art lovers and toured music venues, cafes and art studios. Tired of waiting a year for the next art tour, Artlink decided to make it a monthly occurrence. Around the late 90’s there we’re about 13 spaces open for first Fridays; now there are close to 90. Spaces are range from Indian School Road to Buchanan Street, from 12th Street to 17th Avenue. A free Shuttle-Link service allows Phoenix First Friday visitors to reach most of the spaces – it is not easy to walk/shuttle them all in one night.
The First Friday art walk in downtown Phoenix is held on the first Friday of every month, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and the best part, it’s free! First Friday’s is not about show, glitz or glamour but about the hard working inner-city urban individuals. Come down next first Friday and check it out!
